My parents set sail from Italy on the Marine Perch, an old U.S. troop ship on January 3, 1948 heading towards America. The United States Department of Justice stamped my parents' visas on January 16, 1948 that had been issued by the International Red Cross in Rome, granting them admittance into the United States. My mother's Uncle Aaron met her and my father at the dock in New York and brought them to the Old Romania Restaurant. This was the first time she had met her uncle Aaron who is pictured next to my parents on the left side of the table, just right of my mom.
